Hippie Cruises to Europe

About This Item

KPIX Eyewitness News report from April 17th 1967 by Jim Anderson featuring a proposed business venture by Berkeley's Steve Metz to offer hippies round-trip cruises to Europe for $300. Includes scenes of young people asking a company representative about the conditions onboard and an interview with Metz, who claims: "I think they're [hippies] economically, politically and in every other way growing more and more important each day because they are growing in number, as well as in thought. And the country is coming round to their way of thinking, slowly but surely." The name of their refurbished ship (which will cost $1.5 million) will be 'The Lark'.
