Elaine Brown Press Conference
About This Item
KPIX Eyewitness news report from 29th October 1974 featuring brief scenes from a press conference by Elaine Brown, who is running for election to Oakland City Council. She states that: "I definitely feel that that is directly ... or indirectly related to the whole scheme of still attempting to make the [Black Panther] Party look as though we are a group of hoodlums, or thugs or criminals." After Huey P. Newton fled to Cuba to avoid murder charges in 1974, Brown became chairperson of the Black Panther Party until 1977. Brown ran (unsuccessfully) for election to Oakland City Council in 1973 and 1975. The TV Archive would like to thank guest-intern Siân Williams who repaired, remastered, cataloged and edited this newsfilm for the web.
