KPIX Eyewitness news report from June 26th, 1969 featuring Bobby Seale giving a press conference about Raymond Johnson Jr., who hijacked a National Airlines jet en route to Miami and forced it to land in Havana on November 4th, 1968. Seale states that, "Raymond Johnson has been found out to be nothing but an agent for the fascist CIA and FBI." Concludes with Seale noting that Johnson had used the Black Panthers' name to gain maximum news coverage, and suggesting that the CIA was perhaps involved. Raymond Johnson was not affiliated with the CIA or FBI but BPP Chairman, Bobby Seale had good reason to believe he was an informant or spy after reading a scathing article about the Cuban Government mistreatment of Black Panther Party members in Cuba. Johnson did contact Panther leader, Eldridge Cleaver who had been secretly living in Cuba in early 1969. Johnson was one of many hijackers who were given honorary membership into the Black Panther Party by Cleaver as a way to keep the Cuban Government from isolating them from him. Many of the "hijacker" Panthers like "Mosiah, "Akili" and "Rahim did follow Cleaver to Algiers in June 1969. Unfortunately, 22 year old, Raymond Johnson, spoke out against the Cuban Government policies to US journalists and ended up getting arrested. Johnson was eventually sent to a Cuban prison. All other Panthers left for Algiers except Johnson who left Cuba upon his release from a Cuban prison in 1986. Johnson spent 5 years in a US prison and eventually returned to finish his law studies in Louisiana where he lived today.
