KPIX Eyewitness News report from August 7th 1976 by Bill Hillman, featuring scenes from a Star Trek convention in Oakland's Municipal Auditorium. Includes an interview with actor George Takei (Star Trek's Sulu), who explains that the show's creator Gene Roddenbery (1921-91) is currently talking to Paramount Pictures about a Star Trek feature film production. He goes on to predict that: "I'm absolutely convinced that the feature film's going to be a super smash success and I'm sure it'll have life after the feature ... Star Trek indeed lives!" Also includes views of Star Trek fans enjoying the convention (see Timothy Leary on-screen at 0:45 seconds into the clip) and a brief glimpse of actor James Doohan (Star Trek's Scotty) speaking with the press. It should be noted that Paramount Pictures feature film 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' was released in 1979.
