About This Item

KRON News film footage from November 4th 1968 featuring an interview with President of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) Jack Valenti, who discusses the film ratings system he introduced on November 1st. He also reacts to reports that film distributor Walter Reade, Jr. called the new code "impractical and undesirable," noting that Reade, Jr. is the only owner of a large cinema chain to adopt this attitude. Actress Raquel Welch is also interviewed and reflects that with a current political climate which might promote "conservative backlash" against artistic freedom, the ratings system is at least a "responsible effort."
