KPIX Eyewitness News report from July 10th 1969 by Mike Lee at the Telegraph Avenue Neighborhood Center in Oakland featuring views of young African American, Latino and Asian kids dancing, playing basketball and boxing, under the supervision of the Mission Rebels group. It also includes views from an educators meeting and interviews with coordinator Donald Peterson of City College San Francisco and Bob Brower (New York State University Urban Center). They explain what's happening with the project and how the Department of Health, Education & Welfare is funding a $24k project for college professors to spend time in “the ghetto” with local kids, to learn about living conditions there. Please note: the newsfilm report from which this footage is derived was originally titled by KPIX-TV news crews as "Ghetto Sports." Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
