Press Conference on Unity Symbol for Bayview Community
About This Item
KRON-TV news footage from July 27th 1966 featuring scenes from a press conference about poverty in which Harold Brooks explains that: "The citizens of the Bayview Hunters Point area have learned through experience that if we are in effect going to have the kind of community that is healthy, that our children can have better education … that our young people can have jobs, that our families can have decent homes in which to live, that we can't do this by ourselves alone." He goes on to outline an idea for a unity symbol, which could be used by local groups to identify their common goal in trying to improve living standards. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
