Interview with Ben Williams (1999)

About This Item

Raw KRON-TV news footage from March 20th 1999 featuring scenes from an interview with TV journalist Ben Williams (1927-2012). The discussion focuses mainly on his working relationship at KPIX-TV with fellow Bay Area TV journalist Belva Davis, who has recently announced her "semi-retirement" from television. Williams was hired by KPIX in 1965 as the Bay Area's first ever African American TV journalist and he recalls his time there, after Davis joined the team as the West Coast's first ever African American woman TV journalist in 1966. It should be noted that Davis didn't officially retire until 2012. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
