Medical Missionaries
About This Item
KRON-TV news report from 1990 by Linda Yee about the volunteer work of a health care worker and businessman in San Francisco, as they provide healthcare and outreach services to members of the homeless community and drug users living with the AIDS virus. They've been operating for two years and call themselves the "Health Outreach Team". Includes views of the team as they work on the streets and in single occupancy hotels (also known as "shooting galleries"). They liaise with shelters, make doctors appointments and try to get their clients on welfare. Also features an interview with Ronnie Hester, who describes what it's like to be homeless and living with AIDS. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
