Understanding Art Problems in Color Telecasting

About This Item

A demonstration on 16mm film from 1958 of the challenges faced by engineers when trying to broadcast in color (and in black and white) on television, written and produced by Bill Wagner for KRON-TV. Wagner's solution is called the "ChromaCHron" system. Ends with an intertitle: "This has been a KRON TV ChromaCHron demonstration." It should be noted that Wagner had an article published in the June 1958 edition of the Journal of the SMPTE (Vol. 67, Issue 6) titled: "A Method for Controlling the Gray-Scale Equivalent of Colors Used in Live and Filmed Television Scenic and Graphic Art." Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.

Note that we added music to this silent film, for web presentation only.
