Bay Sunday: Queen Latifah
About This Item
KPIX Bay Sunday segment from March 15th 1992 with Barbara Rodgers featuring an interview with Queen Latifah, who discusses the challenges of being a successful businesswoman and artist in the hip hop industry at the age of 21. She also talks about: taking control of her own management, "I wasn't satisfied with any of the management that was out there. I didn't trust anyone. There were big management companies with all the major rappers and they were trying to throw their pitch, but I didn't trust 'em, so I wouldn't sign with them." She also talks about mentoring fellow hip hop artists like Naughty by Nature; generating professional respect through her personal conduct and making money work for her. Rodgers also summarizes Latifah's more notable acting roles on TV (in the 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' and in cinema ('Jungle Fever'). This program was produced by Christina Alexander and Lena Sullivan and directed by Fred Ouy. Supporting text and metadata updated for the web in April 2020 by Lisa Ann Nikkel.
