Footage of the California Education Summit held February 15-16, 1994 in San Francisco, California. Session 1 is dedicated to discussing the escalating violence in the communities in which children live. Presenter Marian Wright Edelman, president and founder of the Children's Defense Fund laments, "violence is running amuck in our children's lives as it romps through their playgrounds, frolics down the streets they walk to and from school, it abuses them...and tantalizes them" Governor Pete Wilson presents what Willie Brown refers to as the "State of Education in California."
