Investigating Edmund Kemper
About This Item
KPIX news footage from April 25th 1973 with Bill Hillman outside the Santa Cruz County Courthouse, featuring a summary of the investigation into Edmund Kemper, who yesterday confessed from a phone booth in Pueblo, CO to several murders in the Santa Cruz area. Hillman explains that Kemper murdered his paternal grandparents when he was 15 in 1964 and was then paroled in 1970. He reflects that Kemper was able to purchase a .44 Magnum hand gun despite being treated for mental illness and wonders how this might affect gun laws. He also tells us that Kemper is currently en route to Santa Cruz from Colorado and if there is to be a trial, it will be here at the courthouse. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
