Presenter Carolyn Lipton Ellner, Dean of the School of Education, CSU Northridge, discusses teacher education and the current challenges and expectations of teachers, including keeping up with advancements in technology, violence in schools, language barriers, and the challenge of providing counseling and conflict resolution while still maintaining the skills in their area of teaching. Presenter Dr. Stuart E. Gotthald, Superintendent of Schools for Los Angeles County, presents what he believes to be the issues impacting the quality of education in California, including teacher evaluation, seniority, tenured positions, and collective bargaining. 1994 Teacher of the Year, Sandy McBrayer, describes the meaning of education to homeless children. Frank Fekete, School Legal Service, proposes a model to address some of the issues discussed by Dr. Stuart E. Gotthald.
