Footage of the California Education Summit held February 15-16, 1994 in San Francisco, California. Panelists remark on the importance of linking vocational education and academic education. Reporter Cassandra Henderson interviews Senator Gary Hart who comments on the lack of funding for California Schools, poor investment in apprenticeships and vocational training, and the lack of mechanisms to create better teachers. Assemblyman Larry Bowlers comments on violence and police in schools. Assemblyman Joe Baca remarks on the need to increase funding, citing California's $4200 spending per student in comparison to other states spending upwards to $8000 per student. Also includes beginning of Session 3, titled "The Teaching Profession," featuring presenter Judith Warren Little, Associate Professor of Education at the University of California, Berkeley.
