Reporter Cassandra Henderson interviews students Dan Hua and Wilson Chen who helped write a bill as part of Assemblywoman Diane Martinez's pilot student legislation project. Students from Alhambra High School in Southern California drafted a multicultural bill requiring a course in multicultural studies for graduation in California. Dr. James P. Comer, Professor of Child Psychology at Yale Child Study Center, discusses child development. Dr. Henry L. Levin, Professor at Stanford University, discusses how the accelerated educational program, implemented by the National Center for Accelerated Schools, might be a solution to address the "high percentages of students in poverty and other at-risk situations that might impede student ability to succeed academically in schools." Lily Wong Fillmore, Professor in the Graduate School of Education, Language and Literacy Division at UC Berkeley, discusses language minority students and changing instruction to address the needs of non-English speaking students.
