About This Item
KRON-TV news footage from September 4th 1969 with reporter Dick Dote featuring a visit to Northern California's 3rd annual Renaissance Pleasure Faire at China Camp in San Rafael. Includes scenes of fair-goers dressed in period costume, dancing and playing music. Also includes an interview with Phyllis Patterson (1932-2014), co-creator of the Renaissance Faire concept in America with Ron Patterson, who explains that in addition to this annual event: "What we would like to do is to have a Renaissance Center, where there can be craftesmen working all year round. Where there can be an old English inn with serving maids, where people can come and spend a while out of the hustle and bustle of the Twentieth Century." It should be noted that the Northern California Renaissance Faire is still held annually and in 2018 will open on September 15th and 16th near Hollister, CA. It was purchased by a Colorado operator in 1994, who subsequently let it go and is now the only employee owned Renaissance Faire in the USA. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
