Showtime at the Apollo

About This Item

"Showtime at the Apollo," a gala hosted by Speaker Willie L. Brown, Jr. featuring Reverend Cecil Williams and the Glide Gospel Choir, Country musician Mary Ann Palmer-Springs from Mineola, Texas (audio drops at the beginning of her performance), and Blues musician John Lee Hooker. The theme of this party was to recreate what it would have been like at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, one of the only venue where African-Americans were allowed to perform and attend performances. Note: this footage was passed to SF State to be added to the Willie Brown Collection. We don't know who produced the footage. Please contact the film archivist if you can provide any relevant information.
