Bay Area Close Up: Carl Franklin
Raw extracts from an interview on September 14th 1995 by Belva Davis for KRON-TV's Bay Area Close Up program with actor, producer and director Carl Franklin (originally from Richmond), who is promoting his feature movie release 'Devil in a Blue Dress'. He talks about working on that movie, his filmmaking process, how he was attracted to working in the entertainment industry and the status of African American actors in the 1970s. He also reflects on the waxing and waning in the 1990s of Hollywood movies which focussed on African Americans who live in urban centres (so called "ghetto" movies). Ends with brief behind-the-scenes views of Davis working on this piece. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
