KPIX-TV news footage from May 14th 1973 featuring scenes of Founding Chairman and national organizer of the Black Panther Party Bobby Seale speaking to his supporters after losing Oakland's mayoral runoff election, against incumbent John Reading. Seale exclaims to a packed room: "You yourselves, all of you precinct workers ... All the work you've done today has blown their minds ... They're going to know, the Republican administration, that Watergate system, is gonna know that from here on in we ain't backin up!" Also includes views of Seale's supporters congregating and dancing afterwards and brief shots of incumbent Mayor John Reading celebrating with his supporters, cheerfully reminding them that: "I understand the bar is open. Have fun!" This was Reading's 3rd term as Mayor of Oakland and according to the New York Times, with approximately 70% voter turnout in Oakland he won 77,000 votes to Seale's 43,000.
