Officer Joseph Brodnik's Funeral

KRON-TV news footage from June 12th 1969 featuring scenes from the funeral of SFPD officer Joe Brodnik at St Paul's Catholic Church in Noe Valle, San Francisco. Brodnik was shot to death on Alvarado Street in the Noe Valley neighborhood on May 1st and Los Siete de la Raza have been arrested for this crime. Mayor Joseph Alioto addreses crowds outside the church afterwards: "We are aware of the fact too, and it is a tragedy, that the young men who were involved in this senseless murder were products at least of a religious tradition which is the same as yours and mine." Also includes part of a speech from officer Brodnik's widow Jessie Brodnik (1927-2017), who states: "I just hope that what has happened to my husband, that the people of San Francisco will now realize that capital punishment has to be done. Definitely ... I hope to God that all of you stick together and make capital punishment for these killers!" She is refering to a recently introduced bill which passed the California State Senate calling for a mandatory death penalty in first degree murders of police officers.
