Restricting Access To Alcatraz Island
KRON-TV news footage from June 8th 1970 featuring scenes from one of the waterfront piers in San Francisco, where a skipper and prospective passenger are interviewed about trying to gain passage onto Alcatraz Island, currently occupied by American Indians. The coastguard has just started enforcing a Federal restriction which states that the occupying American Indians can be ferried over to Alcatraz but not visitors or tourists. There are also brief views from a press conference by John Trudell (1946-2015), a member of the Santee Sioux, who confirms that the occupiers intend to restore the light on the Alcatraz Island Lighthouse, which recently went out and aerial views of the island.
