Ferd Hernandez & Jimmy Lester (Pre-Fight)
About This Item
KRON-TV news footage from August 8th 1967 featuring brief, silent views of middleweight boxers Ferd Hernandez (1941-1996) and Jimmy Lester (1944-2006) aka the Bayview Blaster before their fight at the Oakland Auditorium, which Hernandez won by a unanimous decision. Two men are also glimpsed watching the fighters shadow box. Note that Lester was twice ranked during his boxing career as the number two middleweight and his father - Vern Lester - was a boxer who fought under his own name in the 1940s and also as Jimmy "Top Row" Allen, once losing a split decision to middleweight champion Jake LaMotta in 1948.
