Jimmy Lester To Fight Aristeo Chavarin

About This Item

KRON-TV news footage from March 9th 1966 with reporter Ed Hart opening with brief scenes of middleweight boxer Jimmy Lester (1944-2006), aka the Bayview Blaster, shadow boxing at a gym in preparation for his match with Aristeo Chavarin on the 11th at Oakland Civic Auditorium. Hart then interviews Lester, who is currently ranked no. 5, hasn't fought for 4 months and needs more fights if he is to take on a ranking contender, such as Don Fullmer. From the Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood of San Francisco, Lester was twice ranked during his boxing career at number two. It should be noted that Lester's father Vern Lester was a boxer who fought under his own name in the 1940s and also as Jimmy "Top Row" Allen, who lost a split decision to middleweight champion Jake LaMotta in 1948.
