About This Item
KPIX-TV news footage from December 18th 1971 with reporter Christopher Chow featuring brief scenes of the USS Oriskany returning with her crew of 1500 sailors from her 6th Vietnam deployment (a 7 month tour of duty). Includes views of the Oriskany sailing in San Francisco Bay and of sailors being welcomed home by loved ones at Alameda dock. It should be noted that the Oriskany originally set sail from New York in 1950 and on May 17th 2006, a team of Navy personnel sank this ship off the Florida coast at Pensacola, to become an artificial reef. It is now considered to be one of the top wreck diving sites in the world. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
