Franklin Mieuli on lawsuit with Rick Barry
About This Item
KPIX-TV news footage from February 16 1968 with Ch.5 reporter Barry Tompkins, featuring scenes from an interview with the owner of the San Francisco Warriors basketball team Franklin Mieuli. Note this team changed their name to the "Golden State Warriors" prior to the 1971-72 season. Mieuli alludes to a recent discussion he had with Rick Barry at Nate Thurmond's home but goes onto explain that he can't divulge any details because of their ongoing lawsuit. Barry signed to the Warriors in 1965 and left to join the American Basketball Association (ABA) team the Oakland Oaks in 1967, which prompted Mieuli to file a lawsuit trying to prevent Barry from playing for the Oaks. Barry eventually returned to the Warriors in 1972. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
