Associate Warden Jim Park on Sirhan Sirhan's state of mind

About This Item

KPIX-TV news footage from May 23 1970 featuring scenes from an interview with the Associate Warden of San Quentin state prison Jim Park, who is asked to comment on the state of mind of inmate Sirhan Sirhan. Inmate Sirhan is on death row for the assassination of Senator Robert Kennedy. Park describes how Sirhan speaks to other inmates, passes the time reading, watching TV and listening to radio and subscribes to: foreign affairs; Christian Science Monitor; Arabic newspapers and Playboy. When the Ch.5 reporter states that Sirhan's attorney Russell E. Parsons recently said in Los Angeles: "He felt Sirhan was mentally disturbed" and asks Park to comment on Sirhan's state of mind, Park replies: " I would say Sirhan is no more disturbed - if that's the word - now than he was when he came in. He and Mr Parsons had a substantial disagreement about something." Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
