Jerry Brown Votes in the 1972 Presidential Election
About This Item
KPIX-TV news footage from November 7 1972 featuring brief scenes of California's Secretary of State Jerry Brown speaking to reporters after voting in the 1972 Presidential Election. He expresses his opinion that television networks should hold off on sharing projected results too widely because he thinks it might have a negative impact on voter turnout. Brown would prefer that networks: "Give the people in California a chance to exercise their unfettered choice on who they want for President and right on down the line." Note that in this Presidential election, incumbent Richard Nixon won the largest margin of victory in the Electoral College for a Republican in a U.S. presidential election, until 1984.
