Herbert Mullin charged with murder

About This Item

KPIX-TV news footage from February 19 1973 featuring a mixed up combination of at least two reports from the Santa Cruz area by Ch.5 reporters Christopher Chow and Pat O'Brien, on the murders of 4 young men in the Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. Includes scenes from press conferences by Santa Cruz County Sheriff Doug James, views of bodies being removed from Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park and extended voice-overs from Chow and O'Brien. Even though Mullin has been apprehended and charged with multiple murders, Chow comments that: "A killer may still be at large" and indeed it wasn't until April that another serial killer who had been active in the Santa Cruz area at the same time as Mullin - Edmund Kemper - turned himself in. Mullin was eventually convicted of murdering 10 people in Santa Cruz county and both he and Kemper are still incarcerated as of September 2020 for the murders they committed in 1972/3.
