Proliferation of street vendors in San Francisco
About This Item
KRON-TV news footage from September 20 1974 with reporter Jack Bates stating that 873 permits to sell crafts on the strees of San Francisco have already been issued. He goes on to explain that local police aren't intending to verify the status of people who apply for licenses and street artists are complaining that "legitimate artisans" are finding it difficult to compete with out-of-town vendors, selling pre-manufactured products. Includes views of Bates reporting from Union Square and interviews with a police officer and a street artist, who states that the sellars of mass produced products are making potential customers question the authenticity of her hand-made crafts.
