National Black Political Convention Ends

KPIX news footage from March 14 1972 with reporter Ben Williams, who travelled to Gary, Indiana with California's delegation to cover the National Black Political Convention, being held at West Side High School. Includes views of the convention, voice-over from Williams who summarizes events there, reflecting on it's "long range implications on American politics." There are also brief interviews with activist Aileen Hernandez and Assemblyman Willie Brown, leader of the California delegation. Hernandez states: "One of the significant omissions in the convention has been the involvement of women in the planning and in the actual work that went on. That didn't happen with the California delegation, again I think we took the leadership there." Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
