Congressman Pete McCloskey on Republican calls to impeach Justice William O. Douglas
About This Item
KPIX-TV footage from April 22 1970 featuring scenes of reporter Helen Bentley interviewing Congressman Pete McCloskey, who explains his opposition to Republican Minority Leader Gerald Ford's call for Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas to be impeached. Republican McCloskey states that a sitting Supreme Court Justice should only be impeached for reasons of committing a crime or for non-judicial conduct on the bench. Not - as in this case - for expressing an opinion which is unpopular with Congress. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
