KTVU news footage with reporter Gary E. Park featuring scenes of topless dancer Carol Doda singing "god bless the child" in her "dramatic debut" at the Encore Theater, 422 Mason Street. This show was an adaptation of W. Somerset Maugham's 'Rain' and ran for 4 weeks with Doda as Sadie Thompson, opening on January 23, 1968. We're told by a promoter that this production is being seriously affected at the box office by San Francisco's newspaper strike. Also includes exterior views of the hungry i club in North Beach and an interview with a man who states that things are currently "off normal" because there are no ads in newspapers. This 16mm film print was remastered in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in July 2022.
