Example of mold damage to 16mm film emulsion

About This Item

Extract from Part I of a KQED news special at San Francisco State College from December 1968, featuring a tracking shot along a corridor full of students staging a sit in, followed by scenes from an interview with President John Summerskill.

This clip provides an example of mold damage to a 16mm b&w reversal print with co-magnetic soundtrack, in which mold has eaten into the emulsion, which exhibits feathery-like distortions on the visible image. There is also damage to the magnetic soundtrack.

This 16mm film print was remastered in 5K (5120 x 3840) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in August 2022. Film shrinkage was measured in August 2022 at 0.30%.
