Dick Gregory visits San Jose State College (1969)

KPIX-TV news footage from November 24 1969 with reporter Mike Lee featuring brief views of comedian and activist Dick Gregory speaking to an "Intellectual History Since 1865" class at San Jose State College's Centennial Hall, where he has been selected as the college's scholar-in-residence. Gregory retained this position until 1970. Note that Mary Hudzikievviecz, College Union Program Board director, stated that: "Gregory was chosen because of his willingness to spend some time on campus, attend classes, and establish a dialogue with the college community." Also includes background voice-over from Lee and ends with brief scenes from an interview with Gregory, who talks about the growing social awareness of young people. He points out how: "92% of every high schools in America, last year, had a disruption. Talking about socially. These kids know about the social problems." Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.

This 16mm film print was remastered in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in August 2022.
