Synanon press conference (1976)
About This Item
KPIX-TV news footage from July 2, 1976 with reporter Ed Arnow featuring brief scenes from a Synanon press conference, in which a spokesperson answers questions about their work with children and relationship with the San Francisco Examiner. Although we have no paperwork from KPIX providing context for this press conference, it should be noted that the Hearst Coporation had just settled a $32 million libel action brought by the Synanon Foundation by agreeing to pay Synanon $600,000 in damages. This was for a suit Synanon filed in October 1972 against two articles which were published in the San Francisco Examiner. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
This 16mm negative film print was transferred in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in January 2023.
