Long-distance cyclist Heinz Stücke recovers stolen bike
About This Item
KRON-TV news footage from April 16, 1971 with reporter Dave Valentine featuring scenes from an interview with long-distance cyclist Heinz Stücke in downtown San Francisco. Stücke had been cycling around the world since 1962, arrived in San Francisco last month and had his bike stolen at Divisadero and Sacramento. Stücke explains to Valentine how he managed to recover his stolen bike from "some neighborhood kids" with the help of a good Samaritan from the city's London market. Ends with views of Stücke fixing up his bike, which was apparently to have been cannibalized for parts. Note that in the 52 years Stücke was cycling around the world, his bike was stolen a total of 6 times (including this theft in San Francisco). Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
