Gregory Peck on television, film and the Oscars

KRON-TV news footage from March 16, 1971 with reporter Dave Valentine featuring scenes from an interview with American actor Gregory Peck (1916-2003), who describes how his favorite TV show The Bold Ones got cancelled, claiming that the TV ratings system: "Inhibits progressive and creative work in television and that's why it remains the medium of the hucksters." In contrast, he states: "In films we don't sell products, we sell entertainment. And that comes in many forms." He also defends the integrity of the Academy Awards against recent criticism from actor George C. Scott, pointing out how many respected actors have accepted Oscars "gracefully." Note that Peck won an Academy Award as Best Actor for his performace in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
