About This Item
KPIX-TV news footage from May 7, 1968 with reporter Belva Davis featuring an interview with Dr. James Collins, superintendent of the Mill Valley School District, who is asked to discuss: "An unusual plan to bring metropolitan students to the suburbs by the Mill Valley school department." This proposal would involve the voluntary participation of 75 students from Richmond school district andf 25 students from San Francisco school district, who would be bussed over to Mill Valley. This model program - if approved - wouldn't start until January 1970 and it is hoped will serve as a stimulus to other school districts, to prepare for school integration.
