Elena Zelayeta prepares chiles rellenos, stuffed with picadillos
About This Item
KPIX news footage from December 20, 1967 with reporter Helen Bentley featuring scenes of Mexican American cookbook author and former TV cook Elena Zelayeta preparing chiles rellenos, stuffed with picadillos, using a recipe taken from her new publication Elena's Favorite Foods California Style. Zelayeta also comments on the relative spiciness of "real Mexican food," stating that: "Mexican food as a rule is seasoned with spices yes, true. But if they want a great deal of heat, they generally have sauces on the side." Ends with silent views of Zelayeta completing the dish. Note that Zelayeta lost her sight in the 1930s.
