"Racial Tension" at Tamalpais High School
About This Item
KPIX-TV news footage from October 26, 1966 with reporter Ben Williams in Mill Valley featuring a press conference by the Principal of Tamapais High School Robert H. Prather, who describes the circumstances surrounding a "disturbance" in the parking lot at the end of second lunch period, involving around 40-50 students. He states: "We feel it's a reflection of the general feeling of tension, a spin off from the racial tension of the nation and Bay Area especially and feelings are high." Prather also corrects what he feels is an "untrue" perception that split lunch periods at the high school represents a from of racial segregation. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
