Fillmore community clashes with police

KPIX-TV news footage from April 28, 1968 featuring scenes from the Fillmore District in San Francisco, of black people being arrested by police, residents gathering to watch and several people chanting "Off the pigs!" The location is close to the Black Panthers headquarters at 1336 1/2 Fillmore, between Eddy and Ellis Streets. Apparently in addition to loudspeakers outside the Panthers headquarters urging people to attend a free Huey P. Newton rally at the Federal Courthouse on Thursday, there were also calls to take up arms and attack the police. This led to confrontation, arrests and social unrest in the neighborhood. At one point 160 police officers were on site and police used tear gas and warning shots from submachine guns to try and pacify crowds. Ends with an interview with SFPD's Night Supervising Captain Jeremiah Taylor, who gives the police's version of these events. Note that the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper stated on p.20 of it's April 29, 1969 edition that KPIX camera operator Steve Paszty was attacked during this disturbance and treated in the emergency room for head and eye injuries.
