Happening House event in Panhandle
About This Item
KRON-TV news footage from c1967 with reporter Art Brown featuring scenes from an event organized by Happening House in San Francisco's Panhandle, next to the Haight-Ashbury district. Includes views of people playing instruments, an interview with co-founder of Happening House Allen Cohen and another man, whom Brown initially asks: "You play anything besides a sweet potato?" The man goes onto describe in some detail what else he gets up to, which includes yoga and: "I go up in the mountains and yell now and then." Ends with this man demonstrating yoga poses, much to the bemusement of Brown. Note that Happening House was set up in early 1967 by the Haight-Ashbury community and faculty members from San Francisco State College, providing cultural activities, education and medical care to hippies in the neighborhood. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
