Ken Kesey interviewed at Winterland
About This Item
KRON-TV news footage from October 27, 1966 with reporter Art Brown outside the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, featuring an interview with Ken Kesey on the 'Further' bus. Kesey is wearing a badge on his hat which reads: "Reports that I am dead are grossly exaggerated!" and reflects on the LSD movement, of which he has been a prominent advocate: "It's time to graduate from acid ... I think a lot of the heads are tired." Originally billed to take place at Winterland on Monday October 31, the Acid Test Graduation event they are discussing was held at a warehouse on Harriet Street in SoMa instead. Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead can be seen playing his guitar on the roof of the 'Further' bus, while Kesey is speaking. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
A KPIX-TV interview with Kesey by Ben Williams from the same day and location can also be viewed in DIVA.
