NOW Demonstration Outside Hearst Building

About This Item

KTVU news footage from December 19, 1968, with reporter Andrea Boggs, featuring scenes of the National Organization For Women (NOW) demonstrating outside the Hearst Building in San Francisco, at 3rd and Market Street. They are protesting against how San Francsico newspapers display job advertisements by sex (male or female), rather than alphabetically - like the Oakland Tribune does. A spokesperson is interviewed and Aileen Hernandez (1926-2017) is seen picketing and singing protest carols with other demonstrators. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks. This 16mm color reversal film print was scanned in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in November 2025.
