KPIX-TV news footage from November 21, 1978, with reporter Ben Williams in Oakland, featuring interviews with Sophia and Richard Smith, in the aftermath of reports that followers of Jim Jones have just committed mass suicide in Jonestown, Guyana. They share prayers and hopes that their sister Shirley Smith managed to survive this tragedy, as they wait for news. It should be noted that on November 18, 1978, over 900 members of the Peoples Temple died at Jonestown, including Shirley Smith. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks. This 16mm color reversal film print was scanned in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in March 2026.
