Fillmore West Closes / Velvet Underground at Fillmore Auditorium

KRON-TV news footage from July 3, 1971, with reporter Myra Scott, featuring scenes from the Fillmore West music venue in San Francisco, located at 10 South Van Ness Avenue, which is closing down tomorrow. Includes an interview with impressario and promoter Bill Graham, who reflects on his career and the early days of the Fillmore, explains why he's closing the venue and predicts (with some accuracy) what will happen to rock music in future. Also includes views of the Velvet Underground and Nico playing live at the Fillmore Auditorium in late May 1966, located at 1805 Geary Blvd. The Televison Archive would like to thank music historian Alec Palao for confirming that these live music scenes were shot in May 1966.
