High Mass at the Purple Onion Two (KRON)

KRON-TV news footage from December 18, 1967, with reporter Gordon Graham, featuring an interview with the playwright John Ignatius Alioto (1945-2021), who shares his opinion on prejudices in society and how they are examined in his controversial play High Mass, which is structured around the Catholic Mass. Alioto talks about the "generation gap" and presents a segment of the play, to illustrate his point. Note that Alioto was the son of Joseph Alioto, who'd just won San Francisco's Mayoral election on November 7 and was a prominent Roman Catholic. High Mass opened at the Purple Onion Two on November 22. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
