Lillian Dianne Wagner prepares for Miss America (1972)

KRON-TV news footage from August 31, 1972, featuring scenes of Lillian Dianne Wagner preparing for the Miss America competition. Wagner is the reigning Miss San Mateo County, won the Miss California competition in San Cruz on June 24 and is a sophomore majoring in theater arts at Skyline College. There are views of Wagner at dance rehearsal, packing a suitcase, applying make up, inspecting dresses and being interviewed in a garden. When asked why she thinks many women's rights groups disapprove of such events, Wagner replies: "I think they're very narrow minded. They're not looking into the situation deeply enough." This 16mm color reversal film print was scanned in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in June 2026.
