Norbert Yancey sings at Ghirardelli Square (1970)

KPIX-TV footage from March 30, 1970, featuring scenes of street performer Norbert Yancey (1936-2026) singing three different songs and playing guitar in three different locations around Ghirardelli Square, in San Francisco. Yancey sings 'Island in the Sun' on a bench, 'Games People Play' at a cafe, and 'Santa Lucia' by a fountain. The full coat magentic soundtrack was recorded separately by KPIX and has been synchronized by us with the 16mm film picture elements. There is no record of this footage being shot in the original KPIX newsfilm shot-logs and we think it was produced for a Ch.5 special report about Norbert Yancey. There is no surviving paperwork to substantiate this working theory. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
